What is fostering?
As a foster-based rescue, our cats live in a foster home (rather than in a shelter) until they are adopted. As a foster parent, you provide temporary care and space for a homeless pet. Foster cats come to us from animal surrenders or local animal shelters.

How long are foster placements?

Normal foster timeframes are 8-16 weeks, depending on the age and medical status of the pet.

Short-term foster parents are sometimes needed for emergency situations.
What does Pounce de Leon provide?

Foster parent training session

“Starter kit” including food, litter, litter box, scooper, toys, and basic care instructions

Medications and vaccinations

Spay/Neuter surgery

Adoption outlets to help pet find his/her new furever home

A thorough process to interview foster parents and find the best fit for you and the pet

Prompt and professional communication with foster parents
What does the Foster Parent provide?

LOVE and socialization – Many cats come to us scared, sick, neglected, and in need of your affection!

Safe environment – heated/cooled space, free anything that can harm the pet

Transportation – to vet visits, and other places as needed for medical care, spay/neuter, etc

Ongoing food and litter (If you are unable to provide this, please contact the Foster Coordinator)

Additional ways you can support Pounce and your foster pet (These are appreciated but not required.):

Donation to cover the cost of vet care, medications or spay/neuter services

Prompt and professional communication with Pounce staff
